Synthon CEO Anish Mehta has shared an in-depth look at the company's 35-year journey, its accelerated growth strategy, and its vision for the future of affordable medicines in a new interview with Pharma Boardroom, the leading platform for healthcare and life sciences leadership insights.
Synthon CEO Anish Mehta Reflects on 35 Years of Enabling Access to Affordable Medicines in New Pharma Boardroom Interview
Since joining as CEO in 2021, Mehta has pursued a strategic shift that he describes as "evolution, not revolution", accelerating R&D investment, expanding Synthon's international footprint, and strengthening operational excellence, all while preserving the culture built by the company's founder. That approach, alongside a significant increase in R&D spend, has delivered consistent revenue and profit growth over the past 5 years.
Synthon's edge, Mehta explains, lies in staying disciplined about scientific complexity, whether in intellectual property, active ingredient manufacturing, or advanced analytics. The company has expanded from its traditional strength in solid oral dose products into higher complexity modalities, including injectables, oligonucleotides, and antibody-drug conjugate components, while continuing to invest heavily in its own manufacturing network across the Czech Republic, Argentina, Spain, and Chile. The recent expansion of its Sant Boi site near Barcelona underscores that commitment to European manufacturing.
Synthon has also taken on a more active leadership role within Medicines for Europe, reflecting its growing influence in the off-patent medicines sector, where roughly 70% of prescriptions dispensed across Europe rely on off-patent products.
